It is with a sense of commitment that A.E.S.A – Associação Empresarial para a Sustentabilidade dos Açores (Business Association for Sustainability of the Azores) took office today in the new Municipal Council of Economy of Ponta Delgada.
The Municipal Council of Economics of Ponta Delgada is an advisory body on economic matters, whose purpose is to promote dialogue between public authorities and civil society with relevant and recognized involvement in the economic development of the municipality of Ponta Delgada, through joint reflection on the definition of policies and cooperation strategies for the economic development of the municipality.
Although this is a municipal council, its relevance goes beyond that scale, considering the population size of the municipality, the central role of Ponta Delgada in the economy of São Miguel and the Azores, as well as the importance of the strategic infrastructure existing in the municipality, namely the commercial port and the airport.
We believe that the creation of this Council is an important step towards more participatory, planned, strategic economic development that is aligned with the challenges of sustainability, especially in an island territory such as ours.
We believe that Ponta Delgada has all the conditions to establish itself as a reference in sustainable economy, and that this Municipal Council for the Economy can play a decisive role in this journey.
